Saujana Golf & Country Club’s Bunga Raya course is named after the Malay term for ‘hibiscus’, although, like its sister course to the east, it also has a nickname – ‘The Crocodile’.

It was designed by Ron Fream more than 40 years ago and has recently been renovated. Turfed with Bermuda grasses, the 7,034-yard course looks pretty, whereas The Palm looks dramatic. Bunga Raya’s ups and downs are less pronounced and despite being the more compact of the two layouts, it feels more spacious.

Any suspicion that it’s the easier of the two courses, however, should not be over-indulged. Water directly impacts half of the course, nowhere more so than at its climax.

There’s a hint of Sawgrass in the last two holes, with the par-3 17th calling for a 180-yard knee-knocker over water to a promontory green, while another lake flanks almost the full length of the final hole.

And there is no gentle introduction, either. Your round begins with a 523-yard par 5 that requires an approach over water to a shallow green. Between that and the closing holes, you may have a little more latitude off the tee than the Palm gives you but wise bunker placement will put pressure on your approach game throughout.

Saujana Golf Country Club - Bunga Raya

The course is really nice and worth to play - even if it is not the condition of KL GCC

Really - in total - a big mess - first the member flight is playing the ball in your feet, then you play 4 hours for 14 holes and then you have to stop because of slow play. The facilities ( especially toilets ) cannot be used by women - unbelievable dirty. What an approach of the club and what a reality

Quite challenging course. A 36 hole layout and the green is super quick on the Palm Course. Food is a really nice thing.
