Opened for play in 1998, Kelab Golf Seri Selangor was the first golf course in Malaysia to open as a public course.  Designed by Ross Watson, the 18-hole golf course is 6,374 metres long and plays to a par-72.  The course is easily accessible from Kuala Lumpur airport and the city centre.  In terms of the layout and features, Kelab Golf Seri Selangor offers a little bit of everything.

Essentially a standard tree-lined course, Kelab Golf Seri Selangor is not all about the trees, there are plenty of water hazards in the shape of ponds, lakes and streams, in addition to the undulating fairways and very quick greens.  In fact, it’s the greens which get much of the attention during a round and in the clubhouse, much discussion surrounds the task of taming the greens on the course.

On a dry day, they can be lightening quick, think Augusta and even for the very best putter in your group, they will be a real challenge.  Having played the first hole, you will get an idea of exactly how the greens are playing that day and it is certainly worth taking note.  What would usually be classed as a great approach shot, can easily take one bounce on the green and be in the rough over the other side.  If you are looking for a golf course to test your approach shots and putting, you will have to go a long way to beat Kelab Golf Seri Selangor.

The pick of the holes and one which sums the course up best, is the double dogleg par-5, fifth hole, which plays to 474 metres off the championship tees.  The hole plays downhill and it is possible to reach the green in two, if the tee shot avoids the bunker on the right of the fairway and the trees and pond to the left.  The green is guarded by water to the left and bunkers to the front right and rear.  A birdie is a possibility on this hole but will require four excellent, well thought out shots.

Other facilities include a clubhouse, with changing rooms, pro shop and function rooms, in addition to a restaurant, café and banquet hall.  In terms of practice areas, there is a putting green, chipping section and practice bunker.

Kelab Golf Seri Selangor is a very accessible golf course, with slick and challenging greens, available to play at a good price.
