Kuala Lumpur golf courses

Located in amongst a very beautiful tropical jungle setting, the Impian Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur is a championship golf course often recognized as being one of the better golf courses in the area. It's reasonably accessible and takes around 40 minutes from the city. 

Let's take you through some of the more interesting holes on this course.

Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (KGPA) in Kuala Lumpur is a 27-hole layout not far from the city centre which is idea for golfer of all standards.  Currently only 18 holes available for play.

The championship course consisting of the Hill & Lakes nines is a fairly classic par 72. The third nine (Forest), is undergoing a major renovation and unlikely to open until the middle of 2015.

Carving its way through an oil palm estate Kota Permai Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur is a top-class golf course designed by Ross Watson which is always in excellent condition and has won numerous awards. Very enjoyable challenge for golfers of all standard.

Kuala Lumpur Golf & CC East Course is parkland style, measuring 6741 meters from the back tees and featuring beautiful vibrant-colored landscaping. In 2010, this 18-hole championship course was voted Malaysia's fourth best course. The design takes full advantage of the land's beauty and makes you feel at one with nature. It has natural grasses and wetlands, as well as natural habitats for many species of wildlife and birds.

Kuala Lumpur Golf & CC West Course is the longer and more difficult of two private golf courses at the club, which is situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur's enormous city center. The golf course which was designed by Robin Nelson is nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees and winds its way through abandoned rock quarries in the Bukit Kiara foothills.

Situated just outside the city of Kuala Lumpur, the Mines Resort is in a very convenient location for residents and visitors alike.  The 18-hole golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened for play in 1994, playing to a total of 6,191 metres, at a par of 72.

Ideally located Nilai Springs Golf and Country Club is just 15 minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and 30 minutes from downtown Kuala Lumpur.

A superb championship layout, with any three of the 9-hole loops combining perfectly to create a true championship test of golf.

As you stand on every single tee you are faced with a plethora of danger, that will test the very best golfers game, skill and nerve.

Saujana Golf & Country Club’s Bunga Raya course is named after the Malay term for ‘hibiscus’, although, like its sister course to the east, it also has a nickname – ‘The Crocodile’.

It was designed by Ron Fream more than 40 years ago and has recently been renovated. Turfed with Bermuda grasses, the 7,034-yard course looks pretty, whereas The Palm looks dramatic. Bunga Raya’s ups and downs are less pronounced and despite being the more compact of the two layouts, it feels more spacious.

Located in the western fringes of Kuala Lumpur, Saujana Golf and Country Club turns 40 years old in 2024 and has hosted the Malaysian Open no fewer than nine times. The Palm Course is one of two on the property.

Measuring 6,992 yards from the back tees, the Palm’s name is a nod to the land’s former use as an oil palm plantation. Many palm trees still form part of its lush tropical surroundings.

Nicknamed ‘The Cobra’, four par 3s and four par 5s are included in the par-72 layout, which is topped with Bermuda turf.

Nestled in the heart of Bandar Tasik Puteri, Malaysia, lies Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club, a haven for golf enthusiasts and leisure seekers alike. The club boasts a compelling 27-hole championship course, meticulously designed by Australian Golf Management and enveloped by lush greenery.

Challenge yourself on two beloved 9-hole courses, Puteri Nine and Putera Nine, each offering unique obstacles and scenic overlooks. Don't miss the iconic par 3 hole 8, affectionately nicknamed "Princely Charm", a true test of finesse and a testament to the club's distinct character.

Templer Park Golf Course is a real escape from the city set in the middle of the jungle a short distance outside Kuala Lumpur.  A very interesting layout and usually in excellent condition with two very distinct nines. Its elevated position make the air a bit cooler.

Tropicana Golf & Country Resort in Kuala Lumpur is a top class 27-hole golf course with some of the best fairways to be found anywhere.   We recommend that you play the two East Courses, which make up the championship course rather than the easier West Course.  

Located on the beautiful Malaysian Island of Carey you will come across a hidden gem.

Amverton Cove Golf and Island Resort is quite simply a must play track, and at just 50 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, the course is easily accessible by car, and it is worth the journey.

Amverton Cove offers 18 holes of magical design that has been crafted to ensure the golfer gets a complete experience of both the wonderful golf course and the local environment, which is stunning.

Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort near Kuala Lumpur is a part of the popular Genting Highland resort complex which sits on top of the hill.  This is really a resort golf course in average condition and is a challenge for most high handicappers because the course is extremely tight with very narrow fairways lined by the jungle so very little room for error.

Bangi Golf Resort in Kuala Lumpur is one of the closest golf courses to the city close to the new townships of Putrajaya and Cyberjay.  It is a 27-hole course with the three nines names as Kajang, Putrajaya and Bangi.  One of the shortest and easiest courses in Kuala Lumpur so everyone will enjoy playing here and should score well.   There is a choice of five different tee boxes which is slightly confusing and most people would normally head for the Blue tees but here they actually equate to the normal white tees so better golfers will probably want to take on this courses from the Black tees.

Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Resort is located just outside Kuala Lumpur, close to the Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex and Stadium.  There are a number of roads which lead to it from the city centre and the airport, so it’s very easy to get to but be aware there will be a lot of traffic on these roads, other than early in the morning, so plan plenty of time for your journey, especially if you have booked a tee-time.

Nestling between the neighbourhoods of Kota Kemuning and Bukit Rimau, not far from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the Bukit Kemuning Golf and Country Resort.  This is a golf club which is sometimes overlooked, perhaps due to the more well-known courses in the region but it’s definitely worth a visit and is one of those courses classed as a ‘hidden gem’ and rightly so.

Bukit Unggul Country Club is a  very pretty and well-designed course set in a valley about 45 minutes from the centre of Kuala Lumpur.  Playing this hilly golf course requires good course management and sensible club selection. Not in great condition but still fun to play and excellent value especially at weekends.

Nestled in a valley 5,000 feet above sea level, the Sultan Ahmad Shah Golf Club is a picturesque oasis carved into the lush foliage and forests of the Malaysia highlands. Surrounded by tree-covered mountains, the entire property offers a stunning backdrop for golf enthusiasts.

Spanning 6,101 meters with a par-71, this meticulously maintained golf course invites players to enjoy a full day of golf in the crisp mountain air. Lush green fairways, well-established trees, strategically placed sand bunkers, challenging greens, and thick rough collectively create a golfing environment that is not only refreshing but also among the most pleasant in Malaysia.

Lake Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur is quite a challenging course and features undulating fairways lined by trees, several large water hazards, well-protected greens and fairways cleverly placed bunkers. It has been specially designed to cater to players of all standards and offer a choice of tee boxes to suit your playing standard.

Glenmarie Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur is yet another top-class 36-hole layout with two great golf courses designed by Max Wexler.  The Garden Course is a resort-style course and the Valley Course is a true championship course.  Slightly let down by poor caddies and indifferent service.

Opened for play in 1998, Kelab Golf Seri Selangor was the first golf course in Malaysia to open as a public course.  Designed by Ross Watson, the 18-hole golf course is 6,374 metres long and plays to a par-72.  The course is easily accessible from Kuala Lumpur airport and the city centre.  In terms of the layout and features, Kelab Golf Seri Selangor offers a little bit of everything.

Situated only 15 km from Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Kinrara Golf Club is one of the most easily accessible golf courses in the Klang Valley. Kinrara Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course. 

At 5,841 meters, Kinrara Golf Course is a short course but with long par-5s, rough and hazards that penalizes inaccurate drives, and a giant 403 meters dogleg par 4 signature 18th hole to end the round, players are challenged to carry their best game to post a good score. The landscape is easy on the eye, with mature trees and streams crisscrossing the golf course. Beautiful bungalows and villas can be seen nestling among trees at some holes outside the border of the course.

The maintenance of the golf course is currently being carried out by the TPC Kuala Lumpur team, which took over from the previous team in November 2018. This would improve the course even further, and it will be another good reason to play at Kinrara.

A brand new course in Kuala Lumpur which we have not had a chance to play yet.  Its still in the soft launch phase and although the fairways are in good condition the greens still need time to bed down.  Challenging back nine with plenty of elevation changes and numerous water hazards.  Give it a chance to mature and this wil become one of the best golf courses in the area. Driving range will open early 2017 and pro-shop later this year.

Monterez Golf & Country Club adopted the definition of the Mayan civilization, known as one of the most advanced civilizations in the world, developing a highly sophisticated style of art and architecture. Monterez Golf & Country Club is probably familiar with most golfers in the Klang Valley area, being one of the most accessible golf courses around. It is fairly short and narrow, hence quite playable.

Palm Garden Golf Club is a very enjoyable and highly recommended 27-hole course in immaculate condition a short distance from the centre of Kuala Lumpur. The course was totally upgraded in 2008 and offers superb playing conditions and a very reasonable price.

Golf courses don´t get much prettier than Staffields Golf Course in Seremban, Malaysia.

Designed by Graham Marsh and Ross Watson the 27- hole complex opened in 1994 and quickly gained recognition as one of the best courses in Malaysia.

The 27-holes are set out in a 335-acre site, with rolling hill and meadowlands that create a unique course in the area

Situated just a 45-minute drive away from Kuala Lumpur airport and 20 kilometres from the city centre, Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, simply known as KGSAAS, is one of Malaysia’s premier golf resorts.  The golf course is set in the royal township of Shah Alam, which is the capital city of the State of Selangor Darul Ehsan.  The 27-hole golf course was designed by Thompson Wolveridge and Associates, including five-time Open champion, Peter Thompson.

Sungai Long Golf & Country Club is one of the top ten golf courses in Malaysia (October 2014 issue of Expatriate Magazine) and ranked the Top 7 Best Golf Courses in Malaysia by GolfMag in 2015. It is just a 15-minute drive from the city , located in the self-contained township of Bandar Sungai Long, Cheras, Selangor Darul Eshan. The course provides a World Class 18 hole golf golf course course designed by Jack Nicklaus. This is the first Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course in Malaysia to be officially opened in November 1992.

The course features strategically positioned bunkering, perfectly groomed greens and fairways with generous landing areas throughout, and meticulous landscaping.
