Best Golf Clubs in Kuala Lumpur

Kota Permai Golf & Country Club
Arguably the best golf course in Malaysia. The Kota has hosted many events here including the Asian Tour Volvo Masters, the co-sanctioned European Tour Malaysian Open and the World Cup of Golf. The par-4 2nd has been awarded Most Beautiful Hole in Malaysia – why? The reason is the water to the left of the hole before a fairway with cleverly sculptured bunkers which you can’t see ahead. You need accurate shots here. Amusingly the club’s logo is a small squirrel and is to the left of the green.

TPC Kuala Lumpur, East Course
This is a championship standard course just outside the city and voted the 4th best golf course in Malaysia. It’s a picturesque course with a combination of natural grasses and wetlands.

TPC Kuala Lumpur Golf , West Course
The Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club is a challenging course and one of the most exciting in Malaysia. The clubhouse has been refurbished in a Californian style with a hint of Spanish and comes with superb facilities. A good game and an excellent after game drink to follow. It’s well worth a visit.

Palm Garden Golf Club
A good golf club with excellent golf on offer on a course that’s been well maintained. The prices are moderate and it’s a quality club that comes highly recommended.
The Putra course is tough to begin with and has water on the first hole, trees are all around many of the holes and accuracy is required on almost all. There still some tricky water carries after you’ve left the trees behind.  The Palm course is a little easier with wide fairways and some rough that doesn’t prove to be too problematic. The nine can be tough though with the par-3 15th having a stone wall directly ahead of the green, and if your shot is too short it can land in the pond that sits from the tee to the green.

Saujana Golf & Country Club, Bunga Raya Course
This is a visually stunning course with beautiful views from the 1st and 10th elevated tees. There are plenty of elevations along the way and you’ll see how really good you are at judging distance. The 9th travels down into a valley, and the par-3 13th has a dramatic drop from the tee to a green.

Saujana Golf & Country Club, Palm Course
The course comes with super-fast greens and fairways lined with palm trees. Each hole will test you and the water, trees, hills and jungle look stunning with plenty of magnificent views on offer from the elevated tees.

Glenmarie Golf & Country Club
This golf course is a 30 minute drive from the Airport and the two championship courses are well respected and considered among the best golf courses in Malaysia, at least in the top 10. The clubhouse is quite impressive and leaves a good impression on you as you enter. The Garden is comparatively easier than its sister course, probably due to a renovation back in 2010. Its home to an impressive amount of natural flora and fauna and added to that are the black and white swans on the lake.

Templer Park Golf & Country Club
A course that’s in excellent condition with beautiful scenery and a really first class experience all round, with attentive staff and excellent service.  The Templer Park is situated in a virgin forest north of Kuala Lumpur. It was designed by the Japanese Jumbo Osaki, once a professional golfer himself.  This course is hard, but rewarding. A round of golf here is a real must as part of your golfing holiday in Malaysia.

Tropicana Golf & Country Resort
The Tropicana promises some excellent fairways in Malaysia. The 3rd nine should be avoided where possible, focussing on the superb 18 championship holes.  The course was built on a rubber plantation back in the early nineties with 27 holes on offer. The 18 hole West Course is good and infinitely preferable to the East Course which you should avoid.

Bukit Unggul Country Club
The word Bukit means hills and Bukit Unggul is an attractive golf course south of Kuala Lumpur and not far from Dengkil. There’s plenty of wildlife and jungle that makes the course so inviting but the fairways are clearly badly cared for with dry patches, dead grass and generally come with a messy appearance. The bunkers don’t fare better with unkempt sand and also littered unintentionally with stones.  The green fees are reasonable which is just as well when you consider the state of the course. The design is quite refreshing, but charging more and improving the course would be a better idea. Don’t expect too much at this course and you won’t be disappointed.

Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah
An immaculate and well maintained course with some challenging golf on offer. The course is designed by Peter Thompson and has three nine hole loops.  This majestically named golf course comprises of waving landscape and over 20,000 trees, that together make for an aesthetically pleasing championship course that’s hosted both professional golfers here and royalty.  The course has some pretty impressive floodlights so play at night is possible, but the course is best enjoyed during the day, as at night judging the distance of the sloping landscape is that bit harder.

Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam
A challenging course in immaculate condition with some excellent golf on offer for golfers of all abilities. An accomplished course and voted the most difficult golf course in Malaysia.  You can take the Lakes or the Forest nine, with the Lake nines 18 holes being longer.

The Forest nine is shorter and is perhaps more suited to beginners and older players. It’s just under 3,000 yards but does contain some tricky holes, so although short it does present some challenges. Both courses offer their own levels of difficulty and a good day’s golf is on the cards whatever your level of ability.

Saujana Golf & Country Club’s Bunga Raya course is named after the Malay term for ‘hibiscus’, although, like its sister course to the east, it also has a nickname – ‘The Crocodile’.

It was designed by Ron Fream more than 40 years ago and has recently been renovated. Turfed with Bermuda grasses, the 7,034-yard course looks pretty, whereas The Palm looks dramatic. Bunga Raya’s ups and downs are less pronounced and despite being the more compact of the two layouts, it feels more spacious.

Bangi Golf Resort in Kuala Lumpur is one of the closest golf courses to the city close to the new townships of Putrajaya and Cyberjay.  It is a 27-hole course with the three nines names as Kajang, Putrajaya and Bangi.  One of the shortest and easiest courses in Kuala Lumpur so everyone will enjoy playing here and should score well.   There is a choice of five different tee boxes which is slightly confusing and most people would normally head for the Blue tees but here they actually equate to the normal white tees so better golfers will probably want to take on this courses from the Black tees.

Situated only 15 km from Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Kinrara Golf Club is one of the most easily accessible golf courses in the Klang Valley. Kinrara Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course.

At 5,841 meters, Kinrara Golf Course is a short course but with long par-5s, rough and hazards that penalizes inaccurate drives, and a giant 403 meters dogleg par 4 signature 18th hole to end the round, players are challenged to carry their best game to post a good score. The landscape is easy on the eye, with mature trees and streams crisscrossing the golf course. Beautiful bungalows and villas can be seen nestling among trees at some holes outside the border of the course.

The maintenance of the golf course is currently being carried out by the TPC Kuala Lumpur team, which took over from the previous team in November 2018. This would improve the course even further, and it will be another good reason to play at Kinrara.
