The Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club ideally located in the Kota Kinabalu region of Malaysia just 10 minutes from the international Airport, is one of the largest facilities in the country and is an unmissable experience. The 27-hole Championship layout was created by world renowned master-craftsman Graham Marsh and has achieved a myriad of awards. Some even say that this is the best Marsh design course.

Set in a beautiful location between the shores of the South China Sea, the course enjoys views across the numerous offshore islands.

The resort comprises of three loops of 9, The Lake Course, The Heritage Course and the Garden course, each with their own atmosphere and challenges.

The man-made lakes that give the Lake Course its name lend a naturalness to the course with undulating greens and perfectly landscaped views out across to the Kota Kinabalu city. 8 of the 9 holes feature water and with the ever present prevailing sea breeze your job of selecting the right clubs will be all the more difficult.

Perhaps the par three 2nd s the standout hole, with the lake short and right of the green it is the wind that makes this hole interesting as it is generally into the face, a well struck shot should see you walking away with a par.

The Heritage Course enjoys the marvellous city scape backdrop of Kota Kinabalu yet has an amazing tranquillity about it. The 11th runs along the shoreline and although the sea doesn´t come into play it can still unnerve you. A particular design feature of the course are the deep pot bunkers that protect many of the greens calling for accurate approaches. The 14th is a delightful example of how well positioned bunkers can cause havoc for golfers, a narrow landing area between two large bunkers and then pot bunkers and a lake protecting the green of this long par make a par a well-deserved score.

Finally, the Garden Course, which pleasantly is not just another nine, although considered easier than the other loops. It is hard to believe that when you stand on the second tee, a par three over water with a large bunker protecting the front of the green and dense foliage protecting anything even slightly long. However, it is the signature hole, the 6th which is the hole to remain with you. Played along the shores of the sea, the tee shot will get the nerves of any golfer jangling. The second to the undulating green needs to find the right portion of the green to stand any chance of making a par.

The courses at Sutera Harbour are fantastic and all are beautifully landscaped. Uniquely it is the only course in Malaysia that offers the chance of playing night golf, which is an experience in itself.

The two-tiered driving range is a wonderful addition to the course as is the clubhouse which provides everything a golfer could need. As a resort the activities beyond golf are vast with a large variety of restaurants and the beautiful harbour to keep you occupied.

Great backdrop and layout but in very average condition.

Great backdrop and layout but in very average condition. The fairways were Ok but the greens were very inconsistent. I played with my sons and enjoyed the experience but TBH the course needs some attention and the greens need an overhaul.
