Set between ancient tropical rainforests and the immense South China Sea the Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai is quite simply in the perfect location.  The championship course, designed by Ronald Fream boasts 18 holes and measures 6173 yards. It was established in 1996 and has become one of the must visit golf courses in the area.

About half an hour drive from the centre of Kota Kinabalu City and the international airport the golf course is set on the Nexus Resort.

The course is achieving worldwide recognition and has been awarded the “Best Golf Resort” and “Best Golf Course in East Malaysia” in the past.

With the abundance of natural beauty, the course has been designed to make the most of the natural terrain and gradually falls from the low, forest clad hills towards the sandy beaches the resort is famous for.

Designed beautifully to incorporate small lakes, waterways and clever mounding the course has a rolling feel to it. Flowing beautifully into the expanse of jungle and presenting spectacular views of the South China Sea and beaches, the tropical rainforest and not forgetting the towering Mount Kinabalu.

The course is golfer friendly, although challenging, it presents golfers with affair test of golf where good shots will be rewarded and poor shots punished, just the way golf was designed to be played.

At 6063 metres the course is not particularly long and that reflects the choice of being player friendly. You begin in the foothills with a steady opener, but it is from the second the fun really starts, with a run of 7 out of 8 holes with water coming into play. The third quite possibly the most memorable hole on the course is a par three played to over a lake to the green, miss short and you will be reloading for another try.

The par fives are generally all three shot holes, but longer hitters will be tempted to get home in two on both the 4th and 10th holes, but get it wrong and you will rack up a big number.

It is the par threes that stake the claim to being the most memorable, with the previously mentioned 3rd and the 14th sure to stick in the mind the longest, much like the third the fourteenth requires a carry over the water to find the green.

The course is in good condition year round, with the greens a good speed. As with other courses that border the South China Sea the wind plays a huge factor in how difficult you find the course and make for a different experience each time you play.

Practice facilities are good, as is the clubhouse which is stylish and offers great options for food and drinks, large spacious locker rooms and a pro-shop where you can find everything you may need for your round of golf.
