Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort is a large complex in Johor, featuring a choice of three championship golf courses.  Located along the water, on the straits of Johor, Tanjong Puteri is close to Pasir Gudang new town and can easily be reached from Johor Bahru in little over 30 minutes.  The golf courses were designed by Max Wexler and Akira Mamiya and opened in 1992.

Each of the golf courses at Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort play through palm oil plantations and rolling hills.  There are mangroves, water-ways and natural forest throughout and all three courses are very well maintained.

The plantation Course was the first to welcome visitors and plays to a length of 6,454 metres.  There are still signs of the oil plantation and fruit grooves, which were used by the villages and these are incorporated in to the landscape.  The majority of oil palm and fruit trees can be seen along both sides of the fairway, especially along holes 4, 6, 7, 14, 15 and 17, where it’s possible to spot mango and coconut palms, among others.

The Village Course, opened in August 1994 and was also part of the original palm oil plantation in this area.  The Kampongs (villages) which people lived in to work on these plantations can still be seen on the 6th, 11th and 12th holes, one of which dates back to the 17th Century.  Water plays a large part on the Village Course, with thirteen of the eighteen holes featuring water along either the fairway or greens.  The total length of the course is 6,399 metres.

The Straits Course, as the name suggests, follows the coastline of the Straits of Johor.  This is the latest addition to Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort and is also the shortest layout, playing to 6,185 metres.  The mangrove swamps provide much of the backdrop on this golf course and if there are high tides, the swamp water can be brought into play on some of the holes, such as the second hole.  In addition to swamp land, the Straits Course has very undulating terrain and if the sea breeze picks up, can offer the toughest challenge of the three courses.

Other facilities at Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort include a 52-bay driving range, practice green, large clubhouse and four restaurants.  It’s also possible to stay at the resort, so if you are planning to play all three golf courses, this would be a good option.

Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort

Good course

It has three layouts- The Plantation Course is the best one. Slightly more expensive with a clubhouse of its own. The other two courses share a makeshift clubhouse. Buggy on the fairway on all three courses.
