Forest City Golf Resort’s encore to its Legacy Course was completed in 2019 when architect Liang Guokun unveiled his 7,138-yard Classic Course.

It presents a very different challenge. Instead of the Legacy’s more open, naturalistic layout, the Classic Course is an impeccably manicured affair, with narrower fairways, punctuated by sharply etched bunkers and lakes.

But you will need your A-game. The Classic Course demands accuracy from tee to green and provides few safe options for the high-handicapper. There is one route on most holes and all must take it – a daunting prospect when you contemplate a carry over two lake inlets at the par-4 5th or the island green on the par-3 that follows it.

The designer’s use of dramatic fairway mounding is best seen at 14, where he relies solely on undulations to defend the green. Factor in multi-tier greens with breaks that put a heavy premium on accurate approach shots and you face a stern test right to the end of your round.

The 580-yard 18th would make a wonderful climax to a pro tournament but will be a daunting finish for tired amateurs. Play it from anything other than the most forward tee and your ball must find two cape fairways, followed by an island green that’s also ringed with sand. That’s three shots over water on the same hole.

The ‘clubhouse’ for both Forest City Golf Resort courses is the 5-star Forest City Golf Hotel situated at the heart of the resort. It has a café, restaurant, and golf shop. A 26-bay driving range and practice area are also available.

If you're an avid golfer, you have to play at Forest City!

Fairways in pristine condition. Greens were inconsistent in terms of green speed but generally well maintained. The Classic and Legend courses at Forest City may be the most well-maintained courses in Malaysia! Our assigned caddies had the necessary experience of the course and greens knowledge to make our game quite enjoyable. Overall, it was a good choice to play these 2 courses at Forest City.

An OK course but needs to mature and service not up to standard

Reviewed by ; on
Pretty average course and will be very warm on sunny days with few trees for shelter. The male changing rooms are very badly designed and cramped with few amenities. Caddies not up to Malaysian standard and request RM50 tip per player and not per buggy. One caddy was on the buggy most of the time reading her hand-phone. I would not rush back

Greta courses but needs to mature

Reviewed by ; on
Fresh golf course with plenty of difficult but interesting holes and you need to play conservatively.   The two caddies that we had were very inexperienced but helpful in a variety of ways. This place is great now but will get even better as it matures.  The downside with this new course is that you may want to bring a rangefinder with you, because garmin or golf buddies don't work here.
