An immaculate water-heavy championship course that has hosted multiple DP World Tour events

The host of multiple DP World Tour events, Al Hamra Golf Club is a stunning links-style course that meanders around four interconnected lagoons over its 7,325-yard length. An immaculately-kept championship course decked with paspalum grass, the 18 holes of Al Hamra Golf Club offer up a compelling challenge for all golfers, its five tee box options allowing you to tailor the challenge to your level of ability.

The course begins with a relatively straightforward short par 4. Longer hitters may be tempted to take the green on, but any miss-struck shot will be in danger of finding the pot bunker in the middle of the fairway. It's not all an easy ride however. The signature 3rd is a stunning par 5 with water flanking both sides of the fairway. A solid drive here will leave you with a choice of taking on the water that splits the hole in two or laying up to leave a short iron into the small green. A beautifully-crafted medium-length par 3, surviving the 7th with your scorecard intact requires judging the wind correctly to avoid the large bunkers that protect the front and right of the green.

The back nine at Al Hamra Golf Club starts with the hardest hole on the golf course. A monster of a par 4 that usually plays into the prevailing wind, there's a lot of pressure to go long off the tee while avoiding the water that runs down the left of the fairway. The approach is even more frightening, played over water that cuts across the hole and needing to carry the bunker that protects the front of the sloping green. Par is a good score here. There's more water in play on the par-4 12th which clocks in at an epic 486 yards from the back tees. Your long approach will need to be perfectly judged to sneak between the two bunkers guarding the front of the green.

After the respite of the 13th and 14th, a driveable par-4 and the easiest par-5 on the course, you're into the tricky closing stretch. The 15th is the pick of the par 3s, with a well-protected green that runs off to bunkers on both sides, while the raised, two-tier green at the long par-4 16th is the scene of many a three putt. A tricky approach awaits at the 17th, with the pin set behind a large bunker just short of the green, while the 18th is a fantastic par-5 to finish. With water all the way down the right hand side of a fairway that gradually narrows, it's a brave soul who reaches for the fairway wood to try to make the heavily-contoured green in two.

The stunning clubhouse features elegant locker rooms, extensive pro shop, and a wealth of food and drink options offering the best in both international and local specialities. The Bay Sports Bar is probably your best bet for a post-round beer and snack, while Pesto is the pick of the restaurants. Overall, it's highly recommended to book a tee time at Al Hamra Golf Club if you're planning to visit Dubai on your golf holiday.
