Having been established in 1909, Yangon Golf Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Myanmar and although the actual name of the designer is unknown, the British played a big role in opening the course.  The first captain was Mr. G.Ballance and initially, there were two golf courses, one 18-hole course and a 9-hole course.  The club is actually registered as a charity and therefore, the members do not make any money from it.

Yangon Golf Club is located a 25-minute drive north of Yangon Town and is very easy to reach.  In previous years, the golf course has had trouble with flooding during the monsoon season and cracking during the dry season but the movement of holes has helped to keep Yangon Golf Club thriving and improving.  The golf course can now be enjoyed at any time of year.

Water plays a huge role on the layout of the golf course and is a feature on no less than 14 of the holes.  The course is quite challenging overall but at the same time, offers a lot of enjoyment to golfers.  There are a number of tee shots which require the ball to carry over water and the bunkers are well placed.

The golf course has a peaceful and calming feel to it, perhaps due to the nature which surrounds each hole.  The Asian PGA Tour has chosen Yangon Golf Club to host some of their tournaments, therefore, it’s clearly a favourite of the local players and golf fans alike.

The pick of the holes has to be the par-5 sixth, which features a blind tee shot, with a water hazard on both the right and left of the fairway.  The choice is between either a driver or a shorter club, which might present a bit more accuracy.  The eleventh hole is also worthy of a mention.  The par-3 looks straight forward enough but a two-tiered green makes club selection very important.  The green is tricky and very fast on downhill putts, so you do not want to finish above the hole.

In addition to the enjoyable golf course, Yangon Golf Club has a number of very helpful and friendly staff and caddies.  The club bar and restaurant is open and offers a good choice of local cuisine and drinks, all of which is operated by the committee.

Yangon Golf Club is a treat to play and should be on the itinerary of any golfer, who is in the Yangon area of Myanmar.

Yangon Golf Club - Course Reviews 1 review

Yangon Golf Club

I honestly expected more, the once lovely old course is in decay

The course is large and beautiful, maintenance could be better, but the ground was wet and the " rough" rather rough. Caddie was ok but not very enthusiastic. The sanitary facilities not acceptable, cold noodles on filthy plastic tables. But everyone very polite and nice. Transport excellent, on time, clean car and a very polite and safe driver.
