Yangon is by far the largest city in Myanmar and is also the most interesting location in the nation as former political exiles, Asian investors and international adventurers are flocking in. As the business and cultural centre of Myanmar, it is Yangon that reflects most of the modifications that have taken place since the nation reopened to the globe. New restaurants, bars and stores are rash. And everywhere there are construction sites–and traffic jams.
But Yangon, once known as Rangoon, has hardly altered at all in many respects. The town stays centered on Shwedagon Paya, an amazing golden Buddhist monument that all else revolves around. Nearby are the parks and lakes that Yan has to offer
Nearby are the parks and ponds that provide an escape from the surrounding chaos for Yangonites. Then there is downtown, its pavements, a vast open-air market, home to some of Southeast Asia's most remarkable colonial architecture.
