Malaysia is home to some of the best golf courses in Asia and Orna Golf and Country Club sits firmly in that bracket.  Located close to Malacca, the capital city of the coastal state of Malacca, in southwestern Malaysia, you can easily reach this golf course from anywhere in the world.

Malacca International Airport is just 10 kilometres from the city centre and no more than 30 minutes from Orna Golf and Country Club.  Upon landing at the airport, you could be on the golf course within an hour.

If you decide to base yourself in the centre of Malacca, you have just 20 kilometres to travel to Orna Golf and Country Club, making it very accessible from the city and a great addition to a Malaysia golf holiday.

The course at Orna Golf and Country Club was designed by Andy Dye and opened for play in 1997, which means it has had plenty of time to mature.  If you are up for a challenge when playing golf in Malaysia, you will want to ensure Orna Golf and Country Club is on your itinerary as it is regarded by many as being one of the toughest courses in west Malaysia.

There are 27 holes, split in to three nine-hole loops and you can combine any set to make an 18-hole round of golf.  There are many aspects to each set of nine holes which make them a challenge for players of all abilities.

There are significant elevation changes throughout the 27 holes and substantial mounding on several of the fairways.  Water comes into play on many holes in the form of lakes and creeks which cross the fairways at various points throughout the course.  There are also large waste bunkers which are just waiting to gobble up your ball should you fail to keep it on the fairway or green.

Orna Golf and Country Club certainly sounds daunting but the fairways are wide and this means you can enjoy using the driver.  You will not find a great deal of trees and vegetation surrounding the fairways so while the water and sand can prove problematic, you do not have much to worry about if you finish off the fairway.

However, the greens are well protected and some are very undulating, making getting down in two putts a challenge.  Whichever set of nine holes you choose to include on a round at Orna Golf and Country Club you will be tested but the conditioning and layout is superb, meaning you will have a great time playing golf on this course.

The clubhouse is very distinctive and in addition to locker rooms and a Chinese restaurant boasts a swimming pool, tennis courts and a jacuzzi.  There are 15 spacious and comfortable guest rooms within the clubhouse and 6 bungalows if you wish to stay over night but you can also make the short trip from Malacca when playing at Orna Golf and Country Club.

The golf course is in bad shape. The ground is so hard that it takes more than 5 minutes to get the tee to the hard ground at the tee box.
