Pete Dye Is one of the leading golf course designers in the world and has several golf courses available to play in Japan. One of which is the Pete Dye Golf Club VIP Course and this is located in Katakura, Imaichi-shi, Tochigi. It takes just over an hour to reach the golf course from central Tokyo, making Pete Dye Golf Club VIP Course ideal as a day trip from the Japanese capital should you be staying there.

The 18 hole par-72 golf course opened in 1990 and plays to just over 7,000 yards from the championship tees. There are three other tee positions to choose from on each hole making Pete Dye Golf Club VIP Course suitable for players of all abilities. The layout of the course is interesting in that it begins with a par-5 hole which is followed by three par-4 holes.

The 1st hole begins with a simple tee shot over a small pond to an undulating fairway. The fairway is flanked on either side by trees which are also present behind the green. Water does not seriously come into play until the 9th hole when the second shot of the par-4 must be played over water to reach the green in regulation. There are also five bunkers surrounding the green, with many of the greens around the course protected in the same way.

There is a putting green which you can use to become accustomed to the speed of the greens before you play. The large clubhouse also offers a choice of accommodation should you wish to stay at Pete Dye Golf Club VIP Course and begin playing early in the morning.
