Black Mountain Golf Club Course Description

The Black Mountain Golf Club has a course that’s been designed with professional players in mind, but amateurs can play here too. The surroundings are stunning with black mountains, natural creeks and contours carved by nature; it’s a beautiful area for a really challenging game of golf.  It certianly makes our list of Best Golf Courses in Asia.

The fairways favour a short drive, but watch out for the blind holes and dog-legs if you’re too cautious. There are large greens protected by water and some beautifully designed bunkers.

A pretty tough start to your round at Black Mountain Golf Club and you are usually playing into the wind but then its downhill to a big but undulating green.  The next hole is a classic risk and reward par 5 and you may be tempted to go for the green in two but it is very well protected by a rock-lined creek. The 3rd is very straightforward par 3 but the approach to the 4th green is fraught with danger as you try and negotiate you way onto the island green.  The uphill par 4, 5th is not too bad as long as you avoid the fairway bunker and remember to take an extra club for your approach. The tee shot on the 6th is quite easy but then you need to decide whether to go over the water to the green or play safe which leaves an awkward shot to a sloping green.  A tough tee shot on the 7th as you have to carry over a lake – you can take the safer route to the left but this then leave a long shot into the green.  The 8th is a beautiful and challenging par 3 with a long and undulating green with a large bunker protecting the left side.  The front nine ends with a tough par 4 with a difficult approach to a green protected by water and sand to one side and a swale to the other.

Your back nine at Black Mountain Golf Club starts with a dogleg par 4 and you need to decide how much to cut off with your tee shot – good birdie chance if you can get in the right position.  The 11th is a fantastic and intimidating par 3 onto an island green – no room for error here. The 12th plays longer than it looks and you need to take an extra club for your approach to avoid the deep bunker protecting the green.  The 13th is one of the best birdie opportunities on the course providing you can avoid the water hazard about 60 yards short of the green.  The 14th is a very challenging par 3 played over a large lake to a green protected by large bunkers.  The 15th is a potential card wrecker with a creek running all along the left side – the second shot is particularly challenging. The 16th is a shortish dogleg par 4 and the 17th is another classic risk and reward hole and long hitters can go for the green but this demands a long carry over the creek.  A stiff finishing hole and you will be happy to escape with a par as the green is surrounded by deep bunkers.

The clubhouse is superb with stunning views of the course while you taste the well-cooked and well-prepared cuisine. There’s a pro shop that’s wells stocked with a wide variety of products. The green fees are higher than other clubs, but justifiably so, as the Black Mountain experience will stay long in the memory.  If you would like to stay overnight here then you can find more information here.

Best course in Hua Hin

Had heard a lot of very positive things about Black Mountain so hopes were high and we were not disappointed. Course was presented in excellent condition and the greens were a fairly frightening 11 on the stimp meter.

Great day out playing Black Mountain again. Love the courrse and the service provided by all staff from start to finish

Course in excellent condition, the caddies are top class and the check in also excellent. Unfortunately, on the day I played, there was a two balls (both western guys) in front of me-one of the guys should not be allowed on the course as he was a very poor player e.g. By hole 2 (par 5) I was waiting to hit by wedge 3rd shot into the green while they were still messing about putting/chipping. Behind me on the fairway was the next flight waiting to hit the second shots. And on the tee box were 2 separate flights waiting to tee off!! By the time I got to the tee box for hole 3 (par 3) they had only just hit their first shot, but seeing my disgust, they let me through. No marshall anywhere to be seen to raise the slow pace of play sadly

A nice course that is rather expensive for what you get

Reviewed by ; on
The course itself at Black Mountain is an enjoyable golf course that is reasonably well maintained. The facilities are pretty much the same as the facilities you would encounter it almost any other golf course. They have a reasonably sized pro shop, restaurant, bar, and men's locker room. All of which were clean and tidy. So why then have an average rating? I will tell you. 1st of all there were the charges for the cart, rental clubs, and caddy. None of these was seriously out of line other than the cost of the cart, however, none of them were up to standard. The cart had no electronic range finder on it as do the carts at Banyan. The caddy that I had, while attentive and nice, wasn't as knowledgeable as, once again, the caddy that I had at Banyon. The same goes for the rental clubs. Finally, from the advertising I expected an exceptional experience as they think of themselves as number one course in the area. I had one rather simple request on checking in which was for a band aid due to a skin rip on the ring finger on my right hand, which needed to be covered for the game. Neither the pro shop nor the starter were able to accommodate this simple request, and I had to go to the Mini March to purchase Band-Aids. Granted, it was only about 50 cents for the 5 plasters that I purchased, but it was such a simple request and I was surprised that they were not able to, or willing to accommodate me. I did like the course, and would play it again if I had friends that wanted to play there. My preference however would be to go to Banyan
