Black Mountain Golf Club Course Description

The Black Mountain Golf Club has a course that’s been designed with professional players in mind, but amateurs can play here too. The surroundings are stunning with black mountains, natural creeks and contours carved by nature; it’s a beautiful area for a really challenging game of golf.  It certianly makes our list of Best Golf Courses in Asia.

The fairways favour a short drive, but watch out for the blind holes and dog-legs if you’re too cautious. There are large greens protected by water and some beautifully designed bunkers.

A pretty tough start to your round at Black Mountain Golf Club and you are usually playing into the wind but then its downhill to a big but undulating green.  The next hole is a classic risk and reward par 5 and you may be tempted to go for the green in two but it is very well protected by a rock-lined creek. The 3rd is very straightforward par 3 but the approach to the 4th green is fraught with danger as you try and negotiate you way onto the island green.  The uphill par 4, 5th is not too bad as long as you avoid the fairway bunker and remember to take an extra club for your approach. The tee shot on the 6th is quite easy but then you need to decide whether to go over the water to the green or play safe which leaves an awkward shot to a sloping green.  A tough tee shot on the 7th as you have to carry over a lake – you can take the safer route to the left but this then leave a long shot into the green.  The 8th is a beautiful and challenging par 3 with a long and undulating green with a large bunker protecting the left side.  The front nine ends with a tough par 4 with a difficult approach to a green protected by water and sand to one side and a swale to the other.

Your back nine at Black Mountain Golf Club starts with a dogleg par 4 and you need to decide how much to cut off with your tee shot – good birdie chance if you can get in the right position.  The 11th is a fantastic and intimidating par 3 onto an island green – no room for error here. The 12th plays longer than it looks and you need to take an extra club for your approach to avoid the deep bunker protecting the green.  The 13th is one of the best birdie opportunities on the course providing you can avoid the water hazard about 60 yards short of the green.  The 14th is a very challenging par 3 played over a large lake to a green protected by large bunkers.  The 15th is a potential card wrecker with a creek running all along the left side – the second shot is particularly challenging. The 16th is a shortish dogleg par 4 and the 17th is another classic risk and reward hole and long hitters can go for the green but this demands a long carry over the creek.  A stiff finishing hole and you will be happy to escape with a par as the green is surrounded by deep bunkers.

The clubhouse is superb with stunning views of the course while you taste the well-cooked and well-prepared cuisine. There’s a pro shop that’s wells stocked with a wide variety of products. The green fees are higher than other clubs, but justifiably so, as the Black Mountain experience will stay long in the memory.  If you would like to stay overnight here then you can find more information here.

Unfortunatley the course is extremely dry, lots of fairways with no grass at all, however i still enjoyed the day. I could imagine its awesome when it has grass. I hit 5 drives over 340 yards , and im not super long

Course was in terrible condition due to the hot / dry spell.

Reviewed by ; on
I would estimate ~30% of the fairways were unplayable, no grass. I hope it recovers with some rain. I didn't receive any warning of the condition, which was disappointing.

Nice course layout

Reviewed by ; on
Played the course 14 days ago as well, conditions did not really improve. Lots of brown and nin grass areas. greens atill in very good condition. If you play preferred lies on the fairways is playing nice if not you can get some nasty lies which should not be the case on a “world class” course. Seems to me the water shortage issue should have been addressed more adequate, if possible that is. Hope it will return soon to its usual standaard.

always a great and special Championship Course - but it really needs water

Reviewed by ; on
As everybody knows, it is an awesome course. The lack of water makes the fairways now grey and brown. I really hope that the guys around Black Mountain will have rain soon. - hopefully the next days... The greens and around the greens is still great.
