Hua Hin golf courses

Hua Hin is Thailand’s original beach resort, and Hua Hin golf courses in the country and the whole of Southeast Asia.Thailand’s first golf course is in Hua Hin and you have a huge choice of courses ranging from links style to parkland style and everything in-between.

Thankfully, due to the low and very competitive green fees on Hua Hin golf courses, every golfer can enjoy the quality golf this area has to offer.

Despite the great value of the golf courses in Hua Hin, many of them remain a secret to people around the world and you get a real feel of exclusivity when playing them.  Booking a Hua Hin golf package will give you the opportunity to not only sample the golf courses in this region of Thailand but also get a taste of local life.

Famous Golf Courses in Hua Hin

Golfers from all over the world travel to Hua Hin in the hope of playing the top golf courses in the region, including Black Mountain Golf Club and Banyan Golf Club.  Some of the golf courses in Hua Hin, such as Sawang Resort and Golf Course, are set among rice fields and fruit orchards, taking you to the heart of rural life in Thailand.  You do not have to travel far outside Hua Hin before finding golf courses such as this, which give you a glimpse into everyday life of the people, plus a fantastic round of golf.

How to reach Hua Hin to play golf?

When planning a trip to play golf in Hua Hin, you must first understand how you will arrive at the destination and this will depend on your point of origin.

Hua Hin is located 200 kilometres away from Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok.  In comparison to Bangkok, Hua Hin is a small town and therefore does not have direct airport links to other countries.  Therefore, if you are travelling from outside the country, you must fly to Bangkok first and then make a connection to Hua Hin.

Links to Bangkok’s airport are tremendous and there are direct flights daily from many European cities and it’s possible to travel from the United States with just one stop.  Once in Bangkok you have the option of train, bus and taxi for the short journey to Hua Hin.  You can also hire a vehicle and drive yourself if you wish but if you are a first-time visitor, you may want to use one of the other options.

Best time to Play Golf in Hua Hin

Having decided on which is the easiest way to reach Hua Hin, you must also consider the best time to travel in terms of the weather.  You do not want to book a dream golf holiday to Hua Hin only to experience adverse weather conditions which has an impact on your golf.

Fortunately, the climate in Hua Hin is pleasant and can be enjoyed for much of the year.  For the best chance of cool, dry weather, which is best suited to playing golf, you are advised to travel between November and February.  If you are happy to play golf in hot conditions, March to May is the time for you as temperatures often get up into the higher 30’s at this time of year.  The rainy season is between June and October and although there will be some heavy downpours it does not rain every day and you should still be able to enjoy playing golf.  However, if you want to avoid any risk of rain spoiling your round, you should aim to play golf in Hua Hin between November and February.

Where to stay in Hua Hin

When booking accommodation for your Hua Hin golf holiday, you have a choice of where to base yourself.  Hua Hin itself is set on the west side of the Gulf of Thailand and is a former fishing village which has remained much of its character.

Other options include Cha Am, which is approximately 20 kilometres north of Hua Hin.  This seaside resort has become more popular in recent years and is home to several high-quality hotels.  If anything, Cha Am feels slightly less touristy than Hua Hin, so if that is important to you, you may want to stay in Cha Am.

Another option is Pranburi, which is a 45 minute drive away from Hua Hin.  This is a quiet and charming seaside town, boasting a lovely sandy beach and world class resorts.  You are not restricted to staying in one area during your Hua Hin golf holiday, so why not book a stay in both Cha Am and Pranburi and enjoy the delights of all three?

Wherever you decide to stay in Hua Hin, you will be within proximity to all the best golf courses, including Black Mountain Golf Hua Hin, which is regularly voted as being number one.  As mentioned above, green fees on Hua Hin golf courses are very reasonable and Black Mountain Golf Course Hua Hin green fees offer superb value for money.

Black Mountain was the site for Asian PGA tour events in 2009 and 2010 and recently hosted the first European Tour event to be staged in Thailand.  The Thailand Classis was held at Black Mountain in 2014, 2015 and 2016, which underlines just how highly regarded this golf course has become around the world.

The course has a very natural feel to it and with small creeks, rocks and trees, all of which have been maintained from the original site.  You will certainly feel at one with nature when playing at Black Mountain.  That’s not to say the course will not test you because it will and the risk/reward options are endless, making a sound strategy important for success.

The clubhouse is equally impressive and you can enjoy 360 degree views of the golf course and surrounding area.  Black Mountain offers fine dining, practice areas, luxurious changing facilities and a spa.  In addition, there is a choice of accommodation at Black Mountain, including villas and apartments plus there is a grocery shop and family waterpark, making it a great place to stay.

If that has not whetted the appetite for a Hua Hin golf holiday, the next golf course certainly will.  Banyan Golf Club Hua Hin was voted the 2009 Best New Course in Asia Pacific by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly and there is not better accolade than one which comes from people who have played on the course.

The 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Pirapon Namatra from Golf East and boasts spectacular mountain and ocean views from many of the holes.  Water hazards, waste bunkers, and sand traps add to the difficulty of the course and native pineapple groves line the fairways, so anything wayward off the tee could see you playing among the fruit.

Elevated greens and sloping fairways are the main features of the golf course at Banyan Golf Hua Hin but the off-course facilities are also of the highest standard.  You have a choice of two 5-star restaurants, a grass driving range and large putting/pitching practice areas to hone your skills.

It’s so difficult to pick which golf course to play when visiting Hua Hin, so why not add more than one to your Hua Hin golf package?  Both Black Mountain Golf Club and Banyan Golf Club would be great additions to any Hua Hin golf package.

For those who would like to sample a piece of Thai golf history, you must head to Royal Hua Hin Golf Course.  The beauty of this golf course, aside from its historic roots of British railway workers and Thai aristocracy, is its location to Hua Hin.  Royal Hua Hin Golf Course is just 5 minutes away from the centre of the town, making it the perfect course for a morning or afternoon round if you are based in Hua Hin itself.

There are lovely views of the Gulf of Thailand and the city to enjoy from several holes and with tight, tree-lined fairways, your driving skills will put to the test.  Look out for the small macaque monkeys on the par-4 13th hole, especially if you find yourself playing from the edge of the fairway and the owls beyond the green of the par-4 7th hole.  These little additions all add to the experience of playing Thailand’s oldest golf course.

Playing golf in Hua Hin wouldn’t be the same without a round of golf at the Jack Nicklaus designed Springfield Royal Country Club.  For those choosing to stay in Cha Am, this golf course is very close by and is rated as one of the best in Hua Hin.

There is a choice of five tee boxes and if you want a challenge like the world’s best golfers you can play from the black tees but beware the distance and water hazards, which are a real test on this course.  The rough features a series of hillocks and anything off the fairway can be difficult to play so keep this is mind when winding up with the driver.

The clubhouse is excellent and is finished to a very high standard plus the caddies are well trained and add to the experience of playing the Springfield Golf Course Hua Hin.  Look out for the additional nine holes, which were added in 2005, as these contrast nicely with the original course.

When creating a Hua Hin golf package you are spoilt for choice and you could include Lake View Resort and Country Club, Majestic Creek Country Club, Milford Golf Club and Resort and Sea Pines Golf Course Hua Hin, among others.

However, when visiting Hua Hin to play golf, you will also want to leave yourself some free time to take part in other activities.

There is something for everyone to enjoy in Hua Hin and even the railway station is an attraction, something you will see if travelling from Bangkok on the train.  It was built during the during the reign of King Rama VI and has a Victorian feel, which along with the bright colours make it very photogenic.

If you like to shop for local and traditional items, both Cicada Market in Cha Am and Hua Hin night market are great places to shop.  Cicada Market is home to art and handmade crafts whereas the night market focuses more on food, which is great when you have been on the golf course during the day.  You can find some of the tastiest food in the whole region at the night market and many locals go there for dinner.

For those who like to see the best architecture, a trip to see Maruekhathaiyawan Palace in Cha Am is a must.  The summer seaside palace was built in the early 1920’s and was designed by an Italian architect.  Having admired the rooms and chambers do not forget to take a stroll along the boardwalks and the passage which leads to the sea.  It’s a lovely way to spend a couple of hours.

However, the real reason you are visiting Hua Hin is for the golf and you will not be disappointed.  With so many world class golf courses located in such a small area, you can pack as much golf in to your Hua Hin golf holiday as you like.

Whether it be the historical course at Royal Hua Hin or the modern Banyan Golf Hua Hin, there is something for every golfer in your group.  If you are travelling to play golf with the family, why not head to Black Mountain Golf Hua Hin?  This not only features one of the top golf courses in the region, it is home to great accommodation and a friendly water park, making it the ideal addition to a family Hua Hin golf package.

Once you have visited Hua Hin for a golf holiday, you will never want to leave and many golfers return to play the courses they missed first time around or to revisit old favourites.  With low green fees, Hua Hin golf courses offer some of the best value golf to be enjoyed anywhere in the world.  Do not delay and book your trip today.

The Eagle Milford Golf Club in Hua Hin enjoys a fabulous location in the hills not far from the centre of Hua Hin with great views over the ocean.  The course was originally designed by renowned golf courses architect, Robert McFarlane.  Unfortunately the club has suffered from a lack of investment and the condition of the courses is not up to the standard of other golf courses in Hua Hin.  It’s a pity as the location and layout are wonderful and this has the potential of being one of the better golf courses in Thailand.  The course is currently being rrented by a Korean operator and the courses is not being maintained corectly and the whole operation is very run down.

The Imperial Lake View Resort Golf Club is one of the most scenic golf courses in Hua Hin and is located in the foothills not far from Kaeng Krachan National Park so you’re guaranteed some beautiful scenery. Originally there were two 9-hole layouts:  Mountain A and Lake B; later two additional nines one is a desert style course which is unusual and the fourth is predictably based on Scottish links with lots of open space and is the easier of the four nines.

Banyan Golf Club Hua Hin is an outstanding golf courses which we voted onto our list of Best Golf Courses in Thailand.  The course was designed by a local architect he has made use of the natural surroundings and the pineapple plantations which surround the course often come into play.

There are six tee boxes to cater to all handicaps and as you would expect the course is dotted with some rather impressive and well located water hazards and bunkers. Play well, and you may well reach the fast and true greens in regulation.

The Royal Hua Hin has a distinguished history dating back to the early half of the 20th century making it the oldest golf course in Thailand. It’s not in great condition but still very playable.

The course wanders between the rocky outcrops and has been designed to mould with the natural terrain and is reminiscent of many of the older British courses.

Situated around 50 minutes north of Hua Hin you will come across one of the best kept secrets in the area, Sawang Resort and Golf Course. Opened in 1993, the Isao Katsumata design offers a fair test of golf with rolling fairways and tee options that allow all golfers to be challenged.

It is set away from the busier courses of Hua Hin and that is reflected in the tranquillity and calm that the course enjoys. Set between rice fields and fruit orchards the golfer is presented with an endearing surrounding and views to the Phetchburi Hills and large lakes makes for impressive viewing.

Springfield Royal Country Club is one of our favourite golf courses in Hua Hin.  A little further out of town than some of the other courses but can be easily reached within 30 minutes.  As you would expect from a course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus there are plenty of traps in the shape of bunkers and water hazards strategically placed to catch that fade or slice off the tee.
