There are many great golf courses to play in Philippines and Luisita Golf and Country Club is one of the best.

Situated to the north of Manila, the capital city of Philippines, the best place to stay for accessing Luisita Golf and Country Club is Clark-Angeles.  You can stay in the city if you wish and it is just under one hour to reach the golf course.

Luisita Golf and Country Club was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior and opened for play in 1967.  The course has been named after the wife of Don Antonio Lopez, who was the head of the Tabacalera company that previously owned the land.

This golf course has played host to some of the biggest golfing events in Philippines including the President’s Cup and other local events.  As one would expect from a Trent Jones design, water comes into play on several holes.  In fact, water is considered a hazard on 11 of the 18 holes on this par-72 layout.

Distance will not be a problem for most players and even off the back tees, the course plays to 6,728 yards, which is not long by today’s standards.  There are four tee boxes to choose from on each hole and the shortest is the red tees, which play to just over 5,000 yards.

Creeks wind their way across the golf course and stem from one large main body of water which becomes a hazard throughout the round.  Tifton and local Bermuda grass has been used in the construction which is suitable to the climate of Philippines.  Luisita Golf and Country Club does not require a great deal of watering and this makes it very good for the environment.

It is tough to pick one outstanding hole but the 17th, which is a 214 yard par-3 is difficult to beat.  You are required to hit your ball over water to a well-protected green and just when you think you have seen the back of the water hazards, 17 can cause all sorts of problems.  This hole combines with the par-5 16th and par-4 18th to make a cracking finish to a lovely round of golf.

However, the enjoyment does not end there and at Luisita Golf and Country Club you can enjoy a meal in the restaurant following a round.  The restaurant is part of the clubhouse which is also home to locker rooms, a pro shop and the driving range.

There is also a hotel onsite meaning you can book a stay at Luisita Golf and Country Club and perhaps play more than one round of golf while sampling the other facilities.  All guests at the hotel can play on the golf course and you could even use it as a base to explore this splendid region of Philippines.
