Miyakojima is the most famous and largest of the Miyako islands and is located in the Okinawa Prefecture of Japan.  The climate in this region of Japan is sub-tropical and that means you can enjoy a round of golf at the top golf courses, including Ocean Links Miyakojima, at any time of year.

You will have little trouble finding your way to Ocean Links Miyakojima as it is situated just 30 minutes away from the main airport on the island.  You can catch a flight to the Miyako islands thanks to direct connections from Tokyo, Naha and Ishigaki on JTA and Air Nippon.

Ocean Links Miyakojima opened for play in 1996 and is a par-72, 18 hole golf course.  Designed by Arai, the course plays to 6,995 yards from the back tees but you can choose from various tee positions on each hole.  This makes Ocean Links Miyakojima suitable for experienced and beginner golfers alike.

The golf course runs along the coast and the only thing separating it from the ocean is an area of woodland and bushes, which runs all the way down to the edge of the sea.  While you will not always see the ocean from the golf course, you can hear it as you play your way around the 18 holes at Ocean Links Miyakojima.

Despite being next to the ocean, there is no water at all on the course, which will be good news to those who get nervous when asked to play shots over the drink.  However, you will find plenty of bunkering to contend with and every green is protected to either the front, back or both.  Look out for the specially designed bunkers which have been created in the shape of a flying bird.

Arguably the biggest draw for playing golf at Ocean Links Miyakojima is the splendid nature and condition of the course.  You will find the golf course in great condition at all times of the year and it has been designed to bring home the feeling of being in southern Japan.

There is enough variation at Ocean Links Miyakojima to keep you thinking and strategy plays an important role.  The course is slightly undulating in places but there are no dramatic changes in elevation, meaning you can plot your way around the course without the need to play any blind shots.

The clubhouse offers locker rooms and large hot baths which overlook the ocean and this is a great way to relax following a round of golf.  Ocean Links Miyakojima also boasts a restaurant with tremendous views over the golf course and sea which adds to the overall experience and a wonderful day of golf.

Ocean Links Miyakojima

Beautiful golf course

It had a more remote feeling than some of the other courses in Okinawa. It wasn't too bad when I played, but you can encounter some very strong winds. Expect to meet several peacocks as you make your way round.
