Okinawa may come as a surprise to many people looking to book a golf holiday to Japan as it is much different the main sights in and around Tokyo. Okinawa prefecture is a group of more than 150 islands in the East China Sea, between Japan’s mainland and Taiwan.
This islands are known for their tropical climate, so if you want to enjoy a round of golf in Okinawa, there is a good chance you will play in nice weather.
The capital of Okinawa is Naha and most visitors to this region of Japan will arrive via the airport. There are many flights from the mainland of Japan to Okinawa including Tokyo and Osaka. However, there are no direct international flights, so you may want to combine a golf holiday in Okinawa with Tokyo and the surrounding area.
It’s also possible to reach Okinawa by ferry from Kogoshima, Osaka and Kobe.
If you enjoy snorkelling in clear blue seas, spotting colourful marine life and white sand beaches in addition to playing golf, Okinawa is the ideal Japanese destination. The flowers on the islands are stunning all year round and you can see rare plants and animals not found elsewhere in Japan including the Iriomote wildcats on Iriomote-jima Island.
In terms of the golf, visitors are spoilt for choice and there are some fantastic golf courses in Okinawa. Ocean Links Miyakojima and Southern Links Golf Club are two good choices if you would like to play golf along the coast while Palm Hills Golf Club and Atta Terrace Golf Resort combine excellent golf with tremendous views over the islands.
