Okinawa golf courses

The main island in Okinawa, Japan is home to several top golf courses. The subtropical climate makes Okinawa a great place to play golf throughout the year. The winter temperatures remain mild and is the perfect time for a golf holiday in this region of Japan. Located in the central region of Okinawa, on the west coast, you will find Chura Orchard Golf Club.

This golf club open for play in 1970 and is one of the most established golf courses on the island. Situated on the coast you can enjoy lovely views of the East China Sea during a round of golf as the ocean provides the backdrop to several holes.

Okinawa Prefecture is home to some of the best golf courses in Japan. The prefecture has over 100 different islands Including one of the largest islands, which is called Miyakojima. Also known as simply Miyako island, it is the biggest and most populous island Among the Miyako islands of Okinawa Prefecture.

The tropical climate makes Miyako island a great place for a holiday and the perfect location for a round of golf. One of the top golf courses on the island is Emerald Coast Golf Links which was established in 1988. Located on the South Coast of Miyako island, Emerald Coast Golf Links provides lovely views of the ocean throughout the round. You will struggle to find a better location for a round of golf anywhere in Japan.

Ginoza Country Club is laid out in a hilly location with wonderful views over the Pacific Ocean.  There are plenty of elevation changes here, and most of the holes have reasonably wide fairways but many of the greens are raised so it's difficult to hold.  When the wind blows off the ocean the course becomes very difficult.

You do not have to stick to the three main islands of Japan when playing golf in the country.  You could travel south to the Okinawa prefecture which consists of over 100 islands.  The islands are located in the East China Sea and they enjoy a tropical climate, making them perfect for a relaxing round of golf.

One such golf course is situated near Nago City, the largest city in the northern part of the main island is called Kanehide Kise Country Club.

Greens are of a good size and are accessible, protected by bunkers the greens and approaches are not too demanding making this an ideal course for higher handicap golfers and beginners.

The facilities off course are good with a modern clubhouse offering all the services you would expect. Multiple bars and restaurants cater for all tastes.

Miyakojima is the most famous and largest of the Miyako islands and is located in the Okinawa Prefecture of Japan.  The climate in this region of Japan is sub-tropical and that means you can enjoy a round of golf at the top golf courses, including Ocean Links Miyakojima, at any time of year.

You will have little trouble finding your way to Ocean Links Miyakojima as it is situated just 30 minutes away from the main airport on the island.  You can catch a flight to the Miyako islands thanks to direct connections from Tokyo, Naha and Ishigaki on JTA and Air Nippon.

Ocean Links Miyakojima opened for play in 1996 and is a par-72, 18 hole golf course.  Designed by Arai, the course plays to 6,995 yards from the back tees but you can choose from various tee positions on each hole.  This makes Ocean Links Miyakojima suitable for experienced and beginner golfers alike.

Many first time visitors to Japan focus on Honshu, which is the largest of the Japanese islands and home to the capital city of Tokyo.  While there are many excellent golf courses on Honshu, it pays to look elsewhere and the Okinawa Prefecture, which makes up part of the Ryukyu Islands, is a great region of the country for playing golf.

Okinawa is blessed with many top golf courses, one of which is Orion Arashiyama Golf Club.  You can reach this golf club by flying to Naha Airport and making the picturesque 90 minute journey towards Nago Bay.

Even in the winter months, the temperatures remain mild in Okinawa and that means you can book a round of golf at Orion Arashiyama Golf Club at any time of year.  The golf course was designed by Arai and opened for play in 1991.  This 18 hole, par-72 golf course plays to 6,955 yards from the back tees but you have a choice of four tees on each hole.

The warm climate makes Okinawa are prime choice for a golf holiday in Japan.  Okinawa is a Japanese Prefecture which includes over 150 islands in the East China Sea.  The stunning beaches and coral reefs attract visitors from all over the world but the golf courses are also one of the leading attractions.

PGM Golf Resort is a great example and this and the golf course can be found on the main island of the prefecture, also called Okinawa.  PGM Golf Resort is an hour away from Naha Airport and very easy to reach along the E58 road.

Set in the stunning natural setting of Okinawa you will find the Palm Hills Golf Resort.

Set 130 metres above sea-level the course is blessed with amazing views of the surrounding area and out to the Pacific Ocean.

An impressive clubhouse waits to greet members and visitors alike and wow what an impression it makes.

The golf course is a good test of golf, and although the fairways are wide and inviting, but don´t be too greedy as water hazards lie in wait for anything that is not truly struck.

Greens are large and generally flat, ideal for golfers that are just starting out and looking for a pleasant, easy-going course on which to gain experience.

Always in good condition the Palm Hills Golf Resort is a pleasure to play and although not the toughest it is well worth visiting.

When you arrive to Shigira Bay Golf Resort you are in a for a real treat.

Boasting a wonderful clubhouse, housing luxurious locker and shower rooms, a well-stocked professional shop and an incredible restaurant that serves locally sourced food from the Island.

The resort spa, or a visit to the natural hot spring is the perfect way to end your day.

With its coastal location Shigira Bay has been designed to blend perfectly into its surroundings.

Each hole offers views of the deep blue sea of Shigira Bay and coupled with the incredible colours of the natural flora the views are quite spectacular.

Many people have an image of Japan in their mind and Okinawa is perhaps completely different to what one imagines when thinking of Japan.  Okinawa is a prefecture of Japan which lies between Taiwan and the Japanese mainland.

It consists of a group of islands in the East China Sea and thanks to its location, Okinawa has a tropical climate and this makes it a great destination for golf throughout the year.  Rated as one of the top golf courses in Okinawa is Shurei Country Club.

You can reach Shurei Country Club from outside Japan by first flying to the capital city, Tokyo and then catching a connecting flight to Naha.  This is the capital of Okinawa and from Naha you can make the short 1 hour journey to Shurei Country Club.

Attention to detail is the delight here, with the inclusion of bunkers in exactly the right place to draw the golfers eye and add danger where needed.

If a bunker is not in the way the designer has positioned water hazards with the same exacting detail.

The greens are delightfully crafted. Varying in size the greens at Atta Terrace are presented in tip-top condition and move from subtle undulations to more obvious undulations that will cause some nightmares.

It is a strategic test of golf that will make the golfer want to return again and again.

A beautifully appointed clubhouse offering spacious locker and shower rooms, lobby area, swimming pool, banqueting rooms and a delightful restaurant that serves traditional local cuisines completes the experience at Atta Terrace Golf Resort.

The Southern Links Golf Course close to Okinawa is a wonderful links-style golf course that takes in the amazing location upon which it was built.

A resort style course the condition is always superb, and the course is a delight to play.

The most spectacular holes both visually and strategically are those that run along the 40-metre-high cliff top. Miss the fairway and you will be saying good bye to your ball as it cascades down the cliff to the Pacific Ocean below.

 As you head towards the back nine the mood of the golf course changes from the cliff top holes into a run of holes that are littered with water hazards, creeks and tropical plants that are native to the area and reminiscent of the world famous Japanese bonsai tree.

Sea breezes constantly keep the golfer on their toes as they play on the more exposed cliff tops. And although slightly more sheltered the back 9 is still susceptible to the changing winds.

A great course to play for any level of golfer.
