Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 5929 m / 6484 y | Type Parkland | Architect Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai

One of the oldest courses in Phuket and relatively short by modern standards Phuket Country Club remains a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, despite competition from the newer clubs. Great for high handicappers but enough to keep the better player interested.  Have recently installed buggy tracks and buggies should be available some time in 2017 - until then it's a walking course.

One of the most interesting aspects of Phuket Country Club is the scenery change as you go round with a mixture of rolling hills, a relatively flat section in the middle and several holes which take you through the landscaped forest.

A short Par 4 to start but you are faced with quite an intimidating tee shot over a ravine - if you play safe and end up on the right side of the fairway then you cannot see the green.  This is followed by a short downhill Par 3 with a slightly elevated green which is quite difficult to hold – the variable wind can make club selection a challenge.  The 3rd is a medium length dogleg Par 5 and probably wise to take an iron off the tee unless you can reliably hit a draw with your driver – a tricky approach with a ditch in front of the green in addition to two bunkers.  The 4th is a difficult Par 4 and a mishit drive can easily run through the fairway and go OB – you also have to flirt with OB for your second.   The Par 3 5th has water running along the left hand side and three bunkers protecting the severely undulating green.  The 6th has a very narrow landing area and great accuracy is required off the tee – try and keep below the hole as downhill puts are very tricky.  If you want to score well on the 7th you need to avoid the numerous bunkers which line the fairway and surround the green – the three tier green adds to the challenge of this hole.  The 8th is a long Par 4 with an elevated green – many players end up short.  A great Par 5 to finish with a tree acting as an aiming point off the tee – carry that and you could get up in two – miscue and the bunkers beckon.

The 10th is probably the most talked about hole at Phuket Country Club – a Par 5 shaped like a banana and you need to decide how much of the lake you dare to cut off – get greedy and you end up in the water.  The long hitters may be tempted to go straight for the green – some risk but the reward is a certain birdie or better.  The 11th is a dogleg Par 4 – not too much problem if you can avoid the bunkers protecting the right side of the green.  The 12th has a very narrow landing area and you are faced with a blind approach to a narrow, elevated green surrounded by bunkers.  The lateral water hazard which borders the 13th is not obvious from the tee box but if you can keep out of that it offer scoring opportunities.  The 14th is a long Par 3 and the 15th a long par 4 with OB both sides and a large green surrounded by bunkers.  The 16th will have you thinking and you need to lay up short of the water and if you can get in position you have a reasonable approach over more water to deep green.  The 17th is a short downhill Par 3 featuring an island green.  Great dogleg Par 5 to finish – go too straight and you end up in the water – it’s uphill all the way to the most difficult green on the course.

The changing rooms have recently been renovated na upgraded and are now the best in Phuket.  One of the largest and best-stocked pro-shops in Phuket offering a wide range of merchandise and a hitting area to test clubs. The club features another members only 9-hole layout which is sometimes used as an alternative when the other course is closed for renovation.

A nice and interesting course to play.

Good value for money. While currently the course allows buggies, it is a great walking course. While the course is a bit short, there is not much of roll on the fairways.
