If you can avoid the water on the first few holes then you are set up for a good round but a straight drive is required on most holes if you are to avoid the many palm trees that line most fairways.  The 4th hole, a long par three over water to a semi-island green is the pick of the front 9.

The back 9 starts with a tricky par 4 and a wayward drive can block out your approach to the green.  Then you have a chance to open your shoulders on the par 5, 11^th but the landing area is quite narrow and you need to be on the short grass as the second shot is over a stream which traverses the fairway.  There are two great par 3’s on the back 9 – the 14th where you tee off from an elevated green to an almost island green and the long 16th with water along one side leading to a multi-tiered green.

The course is in excellent condition, but the greens can be inconsistent with varying speeds but if you take your caddies’ advice they can usually pick the right line for you and give you advice on the speed.

Loch Palm can get very crowded at weekends so midweek play is advisable.  The clubhouse been recently renovated and the changing rooms, pro-shop and the restaurant are all excellent.

They have a unique driving range positioned beside the lake and you play over the lake using floating golf balls
