Travelling to play golf presents you with the chance to visit some places you may have never considered for a holiday.  The Philippines may not have been on your radar previously but with many new golf developments taking place, the capital of Manila is a great base for a golf holiday.

As the capital city of the Philippines, Manila has many direct links via Ninoy Aquino International Airport which serves both international and domestic flights.

When in Manila for a golf holiday, you must add Forest Hills Golf and Country Club to your itinerary.  This golf club opened for play in 1997 and just three years later was named as one of the best golf courses in the world.  You not only get one top 18-hole golf course to enjoy at Forest Hills Golf and Country Club but two.

The designers of the two golf courses at Forest Hills are familiar names in the world of golf.  You have the Jack Nicklaus Course and the Arnold Palmer Course from which to choose and its recommended you make time to play both golf courses.

The Nicklaus Course is the oldest of the two courses at Forest Hills Golf and Country Club and also plays to the longest distance at just over 7,000 yards.  The course meanders its way through the Sierra Madre foothills and while the distance will not be much of an issue for most golfers, the uneven terrain is where the major test begins.

The elevation changes and ravines make club and shot selection very important on the Nicklaus Course.  The greens are receptive but if you misjudge your approach you could left with a very tricky uphill or downhill shot to the green.  The greens are undulating and fast, so you must consider where you want to leave the ball when playing approach shots.  In most cases, you will want to be below the hole for the best chance of dropping the ball first time.

The first two holes of the Nicklaus Course are arguably the most demanding.  This is not an easy golf course but the views are tremendous and you should take a minute to appreciate your surroundings.

The Palmer Course is the latest addition to Forest Hills Golf and Country Club.  What was originally a 9-hole course has been expanded to create a full 18-hole golf course.  The Palmer Course is shorter than the Nicklaus Course, playing to 6,808 yards from the tips but it is the design and fast greens which is major draw of this golf course.

The fairways are narrow and this course is suited to a strategic player, who enjoys planning each shot as opposed to simply pulling out the driver on each hole.

The three cone roof clubhouse at Forest Hill was designed by architect Ruben Payum and includes locker rooms, massage rooms, Jacuzzis, a ballroom, 80-person conference room, air-conditioned bar and dining facilities, pro shop and veranda.

Forest Hills Golf and Country is considered by most to be a must-play when in Manila and its easy to see why.

Good golf course

Nice golf course, surrounded by nature. The green woods all over. Nice tricky and fast greens, where the break is hard to decipher. Really good clubhouse.
