Proof that not all good golf courses must be monsters, Ayala Greenfield Golf & Leisure Club’s course measures 6,335 from the medal tees.

Not that yardage will be your primary concern as you take in the views of Mt. Makiling and Amprigon Hill from this scenic perch, 70km south of the Philippine capital, Manila.

Part of a mountainside country club, the course opened in 2005 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Visitors frequently enthuse over its excellent condition and, of course, the views, although it may not be the ideal testing ground for a novice.

There are several holes, for example, where you have to hit across ravines or through gaps in the otherwise delightful lush greenery that adorns the course. If you and your game are comfortable with those potential round-wreckers, though, Ayala offers a pretty selection of downhill par 3s, and Jones’s canny bunker placement will give you plenty of food for thought.

Refreshingly for a modern course, only a handful of holes are defended by water. A greenside pool on Ayala Greenfield’s longest hole, the 536-yard 9th, tantalizes those who would go for the green in two, but the real ‘squeeze point’ comes at 14 and 15.

A 189-yard par 3, with a pond extending from tee to green, precedes a 456-yard two-shotter with another large pond in front of the tee. The hole’s slight left-right dogleg leaves you free to decide how much water you want to carry with your drive but with a diagonal bunker right in front of the green, the shorter the approach you leave yourself, the better.

The club’s facilities include a driving range, pro shop, restaurant, infinity pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and gym.

Ayala Greenfield Golf Course - Course Reviews 1 review

Ayala Greenfield Golf Course

One of the best golf courses I’ve ever been to.

The greens are well maintained and the caddies are good. The green fees are a bit on the high side but it’s well worth it. You need to be a guest of a club member if you want to play here.
