When considering a golf holiday in Japan, many people look at Tokyo as being the starting point, especially for those arriving from outside the country.  However, in the summer months, it is possible to enjoy a round of golf in northern Japan.

The Bibai Course at Alpen Golf Club is located in Hokkaido, which is the northernmost of Japan’s islands.  Well known for its natural hot springs and ski slopes, Hokkaido is growing a great reputation for golf courses and Alpen Golf Club is one of the best in this region of Japan.  Alpen Group is a top Japanese sports company, so you know you are in good hands when booking a round at this venue.

To reach Bibai Course, most visitors will need to travel to Tokyo first and either catch a connecting flight to Sapporo or use the Seikan Tunnel, which is the world's longest rail tunnel.  Once in Sapporo, it is just over an hour to reach Alpen Golf Club.

The golf course was designed by Pete and Perry Dye, a father and son combination from the United States.  Bibai Course features 27 holes, which are divided into three sets of 9 holes and you can select which sets of two holes you would like to combine to make an 18 hole round of golf.

The total distance of the Bibai Course at Alpen Golf Club is 7,185 yards, making a tough test in terms of length off the back tees.  Thankfully, there is a choice of tees on each hole so you can play from whichever one is suitable for your game.

There are several lakes around the 27 holes and they come into play regardless of which two sets of 9 holes you decide to play.  The course is mostly flat throughout but the water combines with white sand bunkers to offer a good test of strategic golf.  You are advised to look at the course map before heading to Alpen Golf Club and have a plan in mind to avoid the hazards.

Despite not being a hilly golf course, Bibai Course has many undulations throughout and has been designed with Scottish links courses in mind.  This becomes evident with the natural hazards and some of the large greens, which offer a stern test of putting if you fail to land close to the pin.

The conditioning of the Bibai Course at Alpen Golf Club is exceptional.  You will find the 27 holes are in great condition and the greens run very true, making for a tremendous day of golf.

Following your round, head to the restaurant where you will find delicious Japanese cuisine and a wide range of fresh seafood to enjoy.
