Golf in Khao Lak

Khao Lak golf courses

Located in the south of Thailand, just north of Phuket you will come across the province of Khao Lak.

Khao Lak, translated from Thai literally means jungle, which gives you a great idea as to what to expect from the area.

Khao Lak is the perfect location to take a golf holiday with 3 quality golf courses in the region to enjoy.

The first and without doubt, the best of the three is the Katathong Spa and Golf Resort.

Set between three mountains, Khao Tao, the tallest of the three, Khao Nang Hong and Phag Nga the course is positioned in a prime area of the region, offering stunning views.

Katathong Golf Course is built upon the remains of a centuries old tin mine, with records suggesting that the tin mine was in operation a far back as the 15th century. Owner Somkiat Ratanarungsiwat has ensured that his families heritage has been preserved with the design of the course.

The course is spectacular with narrow fairways, well positioned white sand bunkers and a natural reservoir providing a stern test, but the beauty and tranquillity of the course comes from the many natural waterways and waterfalls that provide a wonderful background sound.

An exciting and interesting Par 3 course completes the golf offering.

The second of the courses is the Tublamu Navy Golf Course.

Originally a 9-hole course, owned by the Thai Navy, Tublamu was only opened to the public in the early 2000´s with the extension of the course to 18 holes.

Set along the Andaman Sea the course is links in style with sea-breezes often hampering play.

The course is well laid out and challenging enough for any level of golfer.

Unlike the many resort courses, Tublamu is not as well maintained, don´t get me wrong it is more than playable and the location is superb.

Finally, Kirinara Golf Course, a 9-hole layout that offers yet more stunning views.

Meaning river and mountain the name Kirinara is aptly named.

A mountain stream runs through the course and creates a peaceful setting.

Kirinara is an interesting challenge, with the course being built to mirror the naturally beautiful area.

The 9 holes are all individually created with varying levels of length and difficulty.

Golfers of all levels will relish the challenge the undulating terrain creates, with many of the holes sloping heavily to create some very difficult lies for the approach shots into the mid-sized greens.

Maintained to the highest standards the course is definitely worth a visit.

Phang Nga has many cultural and leisure activities for you to enjoy, so mixing a golf holiday with some fun and relaxation is easy in this area.

Thailand has become one of the top destinations in the world for those seeking a perfect golf holiday and Kirinara Golf Course adds to the appeal.  The ideal mix of world class golf, facilities, beaches, culture and food make Thailand a golfer’s dream and Phang Nga Province is no exception.

Phang Nga Province is a coastal region of southern Thailand with islands and forests being the main draw.  Here you will find some of the great scenery pictured in Thailand holiday brochures in addition to some top golf courses.

There is no airport in Phang Nga Province but you can reach the area by using the airports in Phuket and Krabi.  Once you have arrived, Kirinara Golf Course can be found just 20 minutes away from Khao Lak, which is a popular set of tourist villages on the coast.

Kirinara differs from many of the other popular golf courses in Thailand in that it has 9 holes instead of the full 18 holes.  However, do not let that put you off what is a fantastic Japanese designed golf course worthy of your attention.

About 40 minutes from Phuket, you will discover an untouched part of the country and a wonderful golf course that is open to the public. Rustic in its design, Tublamu Navy Golf Course is owned by the Royal Thai Navy and although it was originally just a 9-hole layout, the course was extended to 18 in 2002 when it first opened its fairways to the public. It is set in the beautiful area of the Son-Ngam beach in Khao Lak province.

Making up part of the Royal Thai Navy Sports Development Centre, it offers an experience like no other. It arguably must be one of the safest golf courses anywhere in the world with armed soldiers standing guard, and even offering to help you to the driving range and bring you refreshments.
