Oita’s golf courses are found throughout the prefecture with concentrations around the main cities of Oita and Beppu. The best ranked courses include Oita Sunny Hills, Oita Tokyu, Kijima Kogen, Kuju Kogen, Pacific Blue, and Yufu Kogen. Japan’s golf courses provide great variety from coastal links set in pine forests through to courses set deep in ancient, volcanic calderas; from courses seemingly inspired by stepped paddy field to others in high valleys surround by towering mountains. Although most are 18-holes, one or two courses have intriguing aspect including Japan’s second oldest course, at Unzen in Kyushu, which creates 18-holes from a 9 fairway course each set with two different tees and greens. Some courses can be counted amongst the world’s best but most, if not all, provide an interesting and great day’s play.
