Crowned Best New International Course by Links Magazine shortly after opening in 2007, New Kuta Golf Club’s reputation has only grown, and its recent hosting of the Indonesian Open cemented its status as the latest in a long line of quality Indonesian golf courses.

Running along the cliffs at the picturesque southern tip of Bali, this is a course with a distinct links flavour, despite not being at sea level – the bumpy fairways are only sparsely populated with trees, and bracing sea breezes make the bump and run a better bet than attempting to play target golf.

Of the well-tended Bermuda greens, the most memorable is the tiered, sloping playing surface on the par-3 6th. This is one of the few places where target golf is your only option, given that the green is surrounded by sand. The word bunker doesn’t really do it justice. This challenge is followed by a very long dog-leg par-4, where a sizeable drive bisecting the fairway bunkers is required to give you a shot at reaching the well-protected elevated green in regulation.

The most memorable stretch of the back nine is holes 14 to 16, which run along the cliffs overlooking the beach. Bracing winds mean you often have to flirt with danger and send your ball out over the ocean and trust the breeze to bring the ball back to safety. The green of the 14th sits right on the cliff edge, beyond a pot bunker that ensures that selecting the correct club is essential if you want to avoid dropping shots. The narrow landing zone on the par-4 16th makes a successful tee shot a tough ask, but pretty much a requirement if you want to reach the green in two. Laying up is no easy task either, given the fact that the fairway tapers dramatically the closer you get to the green.

By the time you have successfully (or otherwise) negotiated the last, you’ll certainly deserve a drink, meal or massage in the large clubhouse that offers a great view of fellow players struggling with the contours of the 9th and 18th greens, although the best view is found at the lookout tower next door, the perfect place to watch the sunset and end another great day on your Bali golf holiday.

The course was in excellent condition, a challenging layout with great views on the back 9, my caddy was excellent, she was spot on with the reading of the greens and helped in a kind professional manner , thank you Vesa, I thought however the overall cost was expensive for what it was , hence it was a bucket list moment.

Enjoyable course to play with friends.

Caddies give very useful information about the fairways where to land and approach.. Course is quite challenging. Fairways have plenty of unrepaired divots. Recommend white tees for the higher handicappers. Greens are in good condition but a bit slow. Caddies are very knowledgeable of the greens. Changing room is average. Food is good and reasonably priced.

Greens bare around edges and cut very low which with wind made them very quick. Fairways and bunkers in good condition. Picturesque course outlook on back nine. My caddie Nina-Marie very pleasant and knew the course well.
