New Kuta Golf Club

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6247 m / 6832 y | Type Links-style | Architect GolfPlan

Crowned Best New International Course by Links Magazine shortly after opening in 2007, New Kuta Golf Club’s reputation has only grown, and its recent hosting of the Indonesian Open cemented its status as the latest in a long line of quality Indonesian golf courses.

Running along the cliffs at the picturesque southern tip of Bali, this is a course with a distinct links flavour, despite not being at sea level – the bumpy fairways are only sparsely populated with trees, and bracing sea breezes make the bump and run a better bet than attempting to play target golf.

Of the well-tended Bermuda greens, the most memorable is the tiered, sloping playing surface on the par-3 6th. This is one of the few places where target golf is your only option, given that the green is surrounded by sand. The word bunker doesn’t really do it justice. This challenge is followed by a very long dog-leg par-4, where a sizeable drive bisecting the fairway bunkers is required to give you a shot at reaching the well-protected elevated green in regulation.

The most memorable stretch of the back nine is holes 14 to 16, which run along the cliffs overlooking the beach. Bracing winds mean you often have to flirt with danger and send your ball out over the ocean and trust the breeze to bring the ball back to safety. The green of the 14th sits right on the cliff edge, beyond a pot bunker that ensures that selecting the correct club is essential if you want to avoid dropping shots. The narrow landing zone on the par-4 16th makes a successful tee shot a tough ask, but pretty much a requirement if you want to reach the green in two. Laying up is no easy task either, given the fact that the fairway tapers dramatically the closer you get to the green.

By the time you have successfully (or otherwise) negotiated the last, you’ll certainly deserve a drink, meal or massage in the large clubhouse that offers a great view of fellow players struggling with the contours of the 9th and 18th greens, although the best view is found at the lookout tower next door, the perfect place to watch the sunset and end another great day on your Bali golf holiday.

Great day out Marshall on the ball making sure all players are keeping up

Great condition even after heavy rain. When there are 10 people walking the coarse filling in any divots that have been missed or watered in buy the rain you know they are trying to keep the coarse in good condition. Greens were fast too. Thank you one and all for making my experience wonderful. Also thank you to the Caddie Angel for being within 1 -2 meter of my range finder all day ! Great job.

High end resort course felt like a local golf course

Reviewed by ; on
This course is supposed to be a high-end resort golf course. First, the starter was not organized. Everyone was checking in and told me to start on the 15th signature hole. That's like eating your dessert now and then eating the main meal. I said i would like to start on the first hole. It was my first and last time to play there. It really felt like a cheap $50 public course. I paid $200 for the round. Second, conditions were not up to par with high-end courses. The greens were yellow and brown, and the fairways were spotty yellow and brown. Only 14, 15 holes had great views of the ocean.

Overpriced. Course ok - experience average.

Reviewed by ; on
Nice layout couple of nice signature holes and some tough par 3’s and long par 5’s. Unfortunately for the price the overall experience is average. Course was ok, greens not great. Caddy was ok but poor English so couldn’t really have a chat and didn’t engage. Not a patch on the old Nirwana. Unfortunately there’s only 2 courses now and they’re cashing in.
