New Kuta Golf Club

Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6247 m / 6832 y | Type Links-style | Architect GolfPlan

Crowned Best New International Course by Links Magazine shortly after opening in 2007, New Kuta Golf Club’s reputation has only grown, and its recent hosting of the Indonesian Open cemented its status as the latest in a long line of quality Indonesian golf courses.

Running along the cliffs at the picturesque southern tip of Bali, this is a course with a distinct links flavour, despite not being at sea level – the bumpy fairways are only sparsely populated with trees, and bracing sea breezes make the bump and run a better bet than attempting to play target golf.

Of the well-tended Bermuda greens, the most memorable is the tiered, sloping playing surface on the par-3 6th. This is one of the few places where target golf is your only option, given that the green is surrounded by sand. The word bunker doesn’t really do it justice. This challenge is followed by a very long dog-leg par-4, where a sizeable drive bisecting the fairway bunkers is required to give you a shot at reaching the well-protected elevated green in regulation.

The most memorable stretch of the back nine is holes 14 to 16, which run along the cliffs overlooking the beach. Bracing winds mean you often have to flirt with danger and send your ball out over the ocean and trust the breeze to bring the ball back to safety. The green of the 14th sits right on the cliff edge, beyond a pot bunker that ensures that selecting the correct club is essential if you want to avoid dropping shots. The narrow landing zone on the par-4 16th makes a successful tee shot a tough ask, but pretty much a requirement if you want to reach the green in two. Laying up is no easy task either, given the fact that the fairway tapers dramatically the closer you get to the green.

By the time you have successfully (or otherwise) negotiated the last, you’ll certainly deserve a drink, meal or massage in the large clubhouse that offers a great view of fellow players struggling with the contours of the 9th and 18th greens, although the best view is found at the lookout tower next door, the perfect place to watch the sunset and end another great day on your Bali golf holiday.

Enjoyable round of Golf with great caddies and beautiful views.

Course condition was average but playable. Staff is great. knowledgeable caddies that know the course well and some of the best ocean views you will experience on a golf course. Refreshment kiosks are not open on the course so, bring your own snacks and drinks (note: the course gives each player two bottles of mineral water free of charge - nice). Worth playing when you are in Bali.

A busy Saturday. Slow round but pleasant caddies and scenic back nine made for a decent round.

Some decent, challenging holes, nice ocean scenery on the back nine. The course has seen a lot of traffic recently. Lots of unfilled divots. The Greens generally ran pretty well. For a 5 hour round, maybe they could consider opening some of their unutilized half way houses on a weekend.
